An Introduction to Sesimbra
Location, History, Weather, Flora&Fauna, Economy
Sesimbra and adjoining ArrĂ¡bida mountain have been inhabited since the Neolithic (4th millennium BC). The easy access to the water combined with protective mountains provided good fishing grounds and safety from enemies. Sesimbra's subsistence fishing is still being practiced today - even though not viable commercially. These roots are visible today in some of the best seafood and fish restaurants in Europe! The countryside of Sesimbra is covered with an abundance of rosemary, myrtle, cistus and thyme which give it that characteristic 'vacation' smell :)
